This website has been developed to offer visitors the opportunity to explore the diverse culture of Southeast Europe.

The website provides information about culture and sports of the Western Balkans (Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, as well as Kosovo under UN Security Council Resolution 1244/99) and Turkey.

“Southeast Europe: People and Culture” provides visitors with a comprehensive insight into the culture of the region.  Writers and journalists from the area offer new, informative and exciting feature articles covering art, dance and theatre, gastronomy, literature, music and sports.

BANJA LUKA OPEN AIR: BREATHE IN ROCK

 

Banja Luka, the second largest town in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located in northern Bosnia (140 kilometers northwest from the country’s capital Sarajevo), hosted its Rock Open Air Festival on 17 and 18 July. Uriah Heep and BC Sweet, along with a number of regional rock bands, heated up the atmosphere on the green river bank of Vrbas, near the fortress Kastel, which dates back to the times when the Romans ruled in the Balkans.

DAYS OF WINE AND BLEAK

 

Lake Skadar, the largest fresh water reservoir in Europe, shared by Montenegro and Albania, is simmering with life this summer. It is a habitat to a colourful array of species, birds and fish, some of which are endemic to the region. Lake Skadar is a cryptodepression, its bottom lies lower than the sea level.
Bubbling close to the lake or the "big water", as it is called by the locals, are rows and rows of Vranac and Krstač grapes, famous local varieties of red and green grapes...

The Istanbul Cup is played on clay at the Tekstilkent Arena. As one of the 63 tournaments on the Sony Ericsson WTA tour, the event attracts players from the world's Top 20, and former winners include Venus Williams and Russia's Elena Dementieva.
