“We have reservations towards all definitions of our music. Let me put it this way: if we had an hour and a half of free time in front of the TV, some of us would choose a movie, others a variety show and others football. In my view all of these represent a whole, a story, it doesn't matter how you put it. We, for instance, are "movie-geeks" but also love football when it has a Hitchcockian ending”, says Pece Trajkovski.
A huge if not a crucial element in Foltin's artistic life are the live shows and the constant touring. The band recently finished a 10-day tour in France and has so far played in smaller and larger venues as well as at festivals in Croatia, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Bulgaria and Hungary. Much like their songs, Foltin's performances are funny, witty as well as entertaining, but not in a shallow way. Their take on Britney Spears' Toxic, which the band named Sexique, is a tiny but precise symbol of what this sextet represents - in terms of instrumental expression and sense of humour and irony.
Foltin often work on theatre plays. In 2008, the Vojdan Cernodrinski Prilep National Theatre's rendition of Bertolt Brecht's "Drums in the Night" was awarded with silver laurel wreath at the 48th International Theater Festival MESS in Sarajevo – and Foltin wrote and performed its music.
“Our theatre work, besides the aforementioned music, also encompasses sound design, which is impossible to take out of the play's context and put onto a CD. We've worked on more than ten plays so far and we have only recorded the music from only a handful of them. Most of that music lives exclusively with the plays… the theatre work fulfils our curiosity and the need for experiment”, concludes Trajkovski.
Their songs, Donkey Hot (2003), Hot Day in Mexico (2006, a Bastion cover) and 110 (2008), are just a small example of the band's style and its permanent evolution - although done in way that doesn't completely erase the group's past and leaves the door wide open for the future.
“That's who we are, adventurers. Always on the move. Pseudo-emigrants, virtual nomads. Our band is a crew. Some people like that, others don't. I completely understand I also don't like everybody but that's our choice, our truth, our mission. Wish us a good wind and we'll play you a new song”, says Pece Trajkovski from Foltin.
